In the Department of Planning, most of the positions are Civil Service positions and the majority of our positions are either: City Planner I, City Planner II or City Planner Supervisor.  We also have support positions which include: Human Resources, Fiscal Administration, and Office Support Specialists. Additionally, the agency occasionally has leadership positions that are non-civil service.

A City Planner II performs planning projects of a complex, innovative and creative nature independently. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities, but may involve work as a project leader performing urban, regional, transportation, environmental, sustainability, food access, emergency or historic designation planning.

City Planner II: Equity and Engagement Planner- Department of Planning- Req# R0001002

A City Planner II performs planning projects of a complex, innovative and creative nature independently. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities, but may involve work as a project leader developing strategies for public engagement, managing Planning Academy initiatives, staying abreast urban planning and community development trends and research around equitable development.

City Planner II: Environmental Planner- Department of Planning- Req# 32600

The Baltimore City Office of Sustainability, a division of the Baltimore Department of Planning, seeks an Environmental Planner/Planner II professional to support Baltimore’s Forest Conservation Program. This role administers a review process of development project applications to ensure proper stewardship of Baltimore’s tree canopy and urban forest. Additionally, the Environmental Planner/Planner II role involves extensive collaboration across city agencies and among organizations who seek to advance Baltimore’s urban tree canopy, biodiversity and natural areas.
